FAQ

About the Honey
What you need to know about honey?

Honey is a sweet liquid made by bees using nectar from flowers. People throughout the world have hailed the health benefits of honey for thousands of years. Honey is available raw or pasteurized and in a variety of color grades. Honey provides a good source of glucose and fructose, and is produced by bees from the nectar obtained from various flowers. Bees go from flower to flower collecting nectar which is a solution of water, sucrose, glucose and fructose. Enzymes in the bee's' body convert the nectar into glucose and fructose.

Whats the difference between grade A and B honey?

U.S. Grade A is the quality of extracted honey that meets the applicable requirements of Table IV or V, and has a minimum total score of 90 points. U.S. Grade B is the quality of extracted honey that meets the applicable requirements of Table IV or V, and has a minimum total score of 80 points.

What's the difference between Raw honey and Grade A honey?

Raw honey is only strained before it's bottled, which means it retains most of the beneficial nutrients and antioxidants that it naturally contains. Conversely, regular honey may undergo a variety of processing, which may remove beneficial nutrients like pollen and reduce its level of antioxidants.

What is pure honey?

In its simplest form, pure honey is gently filtered with nothing at all being added to the honey. No sweeteners, oils or flavors. This doesn't mean that it is tasteless. Honey gets its flavors from nature, from the pollen in the local flowers and plants that the bees forage on.

What should I look for when buying honey?

When buying store-bought honey, look for honey that is labeled "raw," is only from the United States (corn syrup turned into honey is common in other countries), and is from your area preferably. 2) Another option is to make friends with a beekeeper. This isn't as odd as it sounds as beekeepers are everywhere.

How can you tell if honey is good quality?

To verify the purity of honey, add a spoonful of the honey to a cup of warm water. If the honey dissolves in the water, it means it's been mixed with sugar syrup. To test if the honey has been diluted with water, pour some of the honey onto a paper towel.

What diseases does honey cure?

Traditionally, honey is used in the treatment of eye diseases, bronchial asthma, throat infections, tuberculosis, thirst, hiccups, fatigue, dizziness, hepatitis, constipation, worm infestation, piles, eczema, healing of ulcers, and wounds and used as a nutritious supplement.

Does honey expire?

When it's stored properly, honey never goes bad, Honey may darken and/or crystallize, but it is always safe to eat. Metal or plastic containers can oxidize the honey, and heat can change its flavor. However,  without bacteria at work, honey just doesn't spoil.
